There are many different types of humidifiers in which you are able to invest in. The problem that many of us have is trying to figure out which one will work best for the type of health problems we might have or any other reason why we might be using it for. The two common types to choose from are warm mist and cool mist.
Cool Mist
These types of humidifiers require the use of a water tank that has to be filled up with water. The machine will continue to run even if there is no water but it will not be able to add any humidity back into the air. When in use the water will run through a tray in the bottom and into a separate areas that has a wick or type of mesh item that will absorb the water.
Above the wick is a fan which will help to pull the air in and through the wick – which is already wet. When it does this the air will grab hold of the water and push it back into the air as it is leaving the unit. The cool mist humidifier is great for larger rooms and warmer climates.
Though it is easy to clean it is much noisier than the warm mist and at times can be too cold for people to use. However, the biggest disadvantage is that the inside of the humidifier can have mold or algae growing inside of it because of the constant moisture.
Warm Mist
These units come in a variety of designs and ways in which they are used. The one thing that they all have in common is that they have to be filled with water and require the use of heat. The heat will allow the water to evaporate quickly into the air. In most of the new models when the unit has run out of water it will turn itself off.
People will often use this unit when they are sick because it has a special area in which you are able to place liquid medication into it. This will allow the moisture to pass and catch the medicine and than force it back into the air where it is dispersed throughout the room.
These are great to use for adults and kids – but should never be in a room with toddlers. They will have to reach high temperatures in order to work and this can be dangerous if touched. Most are designed to turn off when tipped over.
